Who We Are

Ascend Youth Services, Inc. is a nonprofit, community-centered organization based in Chicago, Illinois, dedicated to providing holistic support to at-risk youth ages 10 to 24. We serve marginalized communities on the South, East, and West sides of Cook County, areas disproportionately impacted by poverty, violence, homelessness, and limited access to life-changing opportunities. Founded by people who’ve lived through the same challenges our youth face today, Ascend was created with one powerful mission: to uplift young people and give them the tools, resources, and support they need to ascend beyond their circumstances.

Ascend Youth Services’ mission is to empower adolescents and at-risk youth by providing comprehensive mentorship, safe housing, and violence prevention programs. Through structured guidance, education, and community support, we equip young individuals with the tools needed to foster their successful transition into adulthood, overcome obstacles, build self-sufficiency, and create a path to success.

Vision Statement: Ascend Youth Services envisions a society where all adolescents, particularly those from underserved communities, have equitable access to resources and opportunities, enabling them to reach their full potential and lead fulfilling lives. We aim to break cycles of violence, homelessness, and justice system involvement, fostering a generation of resilient, self-sufficient, and empowered youth.

Intelligence: We foster a culture of learning, critical thinking, and personal
growth, encouraging youth to make informed decisions and develop problem solving skills.
Integrity: We operate with honesty, transparency, and accountability, ensuring
that our programs and actions align with ethical principles and the best
interests of our youth.
Community: We believe in the power of collective support and collaboration,
working with families, organizations, and stakeholders to create a strong foundation for youth success. 8
Empathy: We approach every young person with understanding and
compassion, recognizing their unique experiences and challenges while
providing tailored support.
● Empowerment: We equip youth with the tools, confidence, and resources they need to take control of their future and become self-sufficient leaders in their communities.
● Guidance: We provide structured mentorship and role models who inspire and
guide young individuals toward positive personal and professional development.

Chicago South, East, and West sides of Cook County, with future expansion into Indiana.

Why We Exist

In Cook County, young people — especially Black and Brown youth — are being left behind:

24.9% of Black residents live in poverty, compared to a countywide average of 13.3%
Over 34% of households with children are led by single parents
Youth violence rates are devastatingly high, with young Black residents 22 times more likely to be killed than their White counterparts
Communities on the South and West sides have a median net worth under $5,000 compared to nearly $1 million on the North Side
